Character’s Mystic Artes
In “Tales of Arise”, Mystic Artes will be performed by high quality 3D models with impressive effects that have never been seen before. Stay tuned for further information on activation conditions and whether there are more secrets techniques for each character.
The classic technique from the “Tales of” series will also make an appearance!
You can set up three types of Ground Attacks and three types of Aerial Attacks in this game. In addition, by using the simultaneous button presses, you can set up 3 more techniques each, for a total of 12 techniques. You can enjoy three-dimensional combat using not only Ground Attack but also Aerial Attack.
The game’s battle style will be introduced in a future update, with a series of attacks that combine normal attacks, special techniques, and the new Boost Attack.

AlphenThe Dahnan slave who raises his Blazing Sword in rebellion.
A young man wakes up wearing a mysterious mask and with no memory of anything.
The Dadnans are collapsing amid their daily toil, and the Renans look on as if to ridicule them. Alphen, who has no memory, is very resentful of the scene, which has become an everyday occurrence for the Dahnans.
After an encounter with Shionne, Alphen picks up the Blazing Sword and sets out to win his freedom by overthrowing the lords in various regions and destroying the walls that separate the lands.
ShionneA mysterious heroine hunted by her own people.
While being hunted by Rena’s soldiers despite being a Renan, she meetsAlphen. She cooperates with Alphen not only in battle but also heals him usingastral artes. She is labeled as a “traitor” by Balseph, the Lord ofCalaglia.
Why was she being chased by Rena’s soldiers?
And in a place where it’s unusual for Dahnans and Renans even to speak, whatis she trying to accomplish, even if it means using the Dahnans?
RinwellDescendant of an oppressed family that lived in hiding.
Rinwell’s family was called “Mage” because they could use Astral Artes despite being Dahnans. Perhaps because of their unique existence, they have lived in hiding from the Renans and their fellow Dahnans.
Hearing rumors of Calaglia’s Blazing Sword, she appears before Alphen and Shionne, hoping to free Cyslodia.
However, Rinwell’s experience has made her even more hostile toward Rena than others, and she is conflicted about sharing the journey with Shionne, a Renan.
LawA youth who betrayed his people and became Rena’s pawn.
A Dahna youth who belongs to the secret police, the Snake Eyes, dedicated to making Rena’s reign stronger and more stable.
After reaching Cyslodia, Alphen and his group are confronted by a group of people who are trying to detain them as “disruptors.”
Why is he betraying the Dahnans and capturing his own people under the name of Rena’s organization? What is the past behind his anguished look he shows at times?
About the World
Dahna – The enslaved planet that once glorified for its fertile land.
Dahna, a planet that was once filled with lush greenery and nature.However, 300 years ago, the planet was suddenly invaded by its neighboring planet, Rena, and its peace abruptly ended. The Renans controlled the land, and they have destroyed the culture and lives that have been cultivated in this land.The Renans have also taken away the power that resides in all things, the “Astral Artes,” which has dramatically affected the climate and nature.
Rena – The reigning planet, once revered as the “The Land of the Gods.”
A planet that was once said to be the home of the gods and the resting place of the dead.The Dahnans were forced to submit before the unprecedented technologies and the demons lead by Rena’s soldiers. The land of Dahna is divided and ruled by “walls” built by the Renans, and each land is ruled by a Lord, a representative of the Renans.Alphen and his group set off on a journey to overthrow the Lords and destroy the “walls” that separate each region in order to restore freedom to Dahna.

Calaglia – A land of eternal fire and ashes, where the fire astral energy is stripped away.
The Dahnans of this land are forced to work hard to accumulate the fire astral energy. The Dahnan slaves have a core embedded in their arms and are scorned as “Embedded” by the Renans.
On the contrary, the Renans were called “Bright Eyes” by the Dahnans because their eyes glowed when they used Astral Arte, and they despised it.
Cyslodia – The land that turned into frozen soil as the “Light” has been lost from the area.
In this land where “light” has been stolen from all around, the secret police called the “Snake Eyes” have been tipping off and capturing rebels to strengthen the rule of the Renans further. People are afraid of snitching, and even if they are Dahnans, they are not permitted to challenge Rena’s rule.
This is where they meet “Law,” a youth who stands in front of Alphen and his group as a member of the Snake Eyes.
Dahna’s resistance against Rena’s rule and oppression.
In each region, there is a resistance organization to Rena, formed by the Dahnans.
They work together with Alphen and his group, who have the Blazing Sword to overthrow and be liberated from the Lords.
However, they are not always praised as heroes by the people, as their acts of resistance and their struggles can further fuel Rena’s tyrannical rule.
ZephyrThe man who leads the Crimson Crows, a resistance group in Calaglia.
He is a man who calmly observes the situation from a bird’s-eye view, has the intellect to guide the members, and possesses outstanding fighting skills, earning the trust of his subordinates.Together with Alphen and Shionne, he strives to overthrow the Calaglia’s Lord, Balseph.
He participates in battles as a supporting member, utilizing his strong body to overwhelm Rena’s soldiers and Zeugles with powerful blows.

The Opening Movie of Tales of Arise is now available. This movie, created by the famous anime studio Ufotable gives a glimpse at the epic journey that awaits players in Tales of Arise. This movie also features the game’s opening song, “HIBANA” by “KANKAKU PIERO”.
Tales of Arise will follow the journey of Alphen and Shionne in their quest to free Dahna for the ruling of Rena. To help in their fight they will be joined by Rinwell, Law, Kisara and Dohalim, all bringing their own motives, stories and fighting capabilities to the group.

Tales of Arise is being developed for both fans of the series and new players with the expressed goal of providing breathtaking visuals for everyone to experience. Tomizawa, the producer of Tales of ARISE has just updated his blog today after the game’s promotion re-heat last week. The following is an English translated message from the official blog post:
Hello everybody, my name is Tomizawa, the producer of Tales of ARISE.
Last week, we re-initiated the “Tales of ARISE” promotions around the world.
We have revealed all of the above information at once, but has everyone checked everything?
First of all, I would like to apologize for not being able to deliver any information since our last blog post in June last year announcing that the game release window will be changed from 2020 to “undetermined”.
During this time, the development team has made best efforts to complete the game development at the best possible quality while minimizing the effects of Covid-19. At the same time, the development team has been able to support next gen consoles as well, as part of the reasons of having fans wait all this time.
In parallel, our marketing teams around the world have been working together in preparation of delivering information leading up to the launch of the game.
Normally, we would have carried out face to face internal discussions through business trips to our respective offices, but with the implementation of online meetings, the number of discussions have actually increased, leading to more frequent and fruitful meetings, allowing us to simultaneously launch a “Tales of” series game globally for the first time.
As a result, we have prepared 4 types of trailers to inform you of the game from multiple angles, but today, I would like to spend a little more time providing details and in depth supplemental information about the game.
<A world striving for the break of dawn>
The story of this game, literally starts “before dawn”.
Many of the screenshots revealed the use melancholy, or fierce tones and color palettes, and a lot of the facial expressions of the characters are often sad or lacking excitement.
The situation of Dahna after being ruled by Rena for over 300 years, is not a bright world by any means, and the countries are divided, being deprived of each other’s information.
With an outstanding technological advantage, all those being ruled have forfeited the will to resist, and the people and lands of Dahna have been exploited under the rule of Rena.
The story of Alphen and Shionne begins in an area in this world, in the ever burning country of “Orbus Calaglia”, where the Astral Energy of fire is being collected.
On the other hand, the second country we have revealed, “Cyslodia”, is the complete opposite and is a land deprived of light in intense cold.
During their journey to Cyslodia, they meet two characters. A Dahnan girl named “Rinwell” who is capable of using Astral Artes, which is supposed to be only usable by the Renans, and a Dahnan boy “Law”, who is a member of a Renan police force acting as a leader of its people.
They too are in a complex situation as a result of the rule of Rena.
Please look forward to finding out why and how they join Alphen and Shionne on their journey.
Even through the drama of the complex and difficult situations, the traditional heartwarming character interactions of the “Tale of” series will continue to be an important part of this title, and so as a message to our long time Tales of fans, please do not be worried.
We will gradually share the many unique angles of each of the characters along with their friendly nature and interactions as something to look forward to in our campaign.

As a part of our footage reveal, we have shown glimpses of the venues and battle experiences. We plan to dive into more details of the new systems implemented, but for users specifically interested in the battle systems, I’m sure there are many aspects that may have caught your attention.
I can’t give you too many details at this time but I’m guessing that the speed of battles is something that may have caught your eye.
This title has continued to focus on the feel of battles through improved input response, counter attacks that follow evasions, and the connections of each character actions. On the other hand, we have also emphasized breaking away from “managing the gauges and fighting against the gauges” sensation. We have designed the game making sure that the gauge management is kept simple and to a minimum, so that players can focus on more instinctive gameplay.
Of course, the growth attributes of a typical RPG are properly implemented, and players should be able to enjoy skill mapping alongside many other features in order to feel personal improvements in battle techniques and gameplay skills. Further, the two character interaction techniques that we have revealed, “Boost Attack” and “Boost Strike”, should also help support the player’s sense of character individuality during party battles, in terms of both battle strategy and performance.
This battle system has been implemented in hopes that players can better sense the capability of being able to control the key battle points of each character as a component of the multi character melee battle system. I hope to be able to provide a way for players to directly feel how this system works instead of just through the footage we provide.
One other thing. There may be people who have noticed the character visual expression themes when seen in the battles and environments. With our base goal of “maintaining the traditional series’ core values and simultaneously updating to a current day, smooth game experience”, our aim is to “have the players naturally feel the bond that connects the party members, not just through event scenes and skits, but through the overall gaming experience”.
On top of this, we have “vastly strengthened the “Short Chat” that is inserted in the field experiences and battle sequences”. For example, not limited to special instances such as boss battles, during each and individual battle and post battle sequences, as well as during field exploration moments, various character voiced short chat instances will be initiated. These chats will be composed of regular day to day conversations between characters, or sometimes hints to conquer missions, or even dramatic conversations that may have a bigger impact than event demos.
What we want to accomplish through this is “to not have the players play the game in order to watch the drama”, but to gradually evolve in a direction where “players actually feel the drama as their own experience throughout the entire game”. There may be some players who feel a sense of concern after seeing that battles are followed by short chats.
However, through this title, our aim is to evolve the experience from one that results in skipping the scenes after repeatedly watching them multiple times, to one that allows players to constantly feel a sense of freshness to the characters while naturally encouraging them to take steps towards the next journey.
(But as a side note, the footage that we have shown you this round is just a mere preview of the journey that lies ahead, and only a portion of the characters have been introduced, potentially taking away from feeling the “likeness” of the series).
These types of challenges have been carried out with clear direction, hopes and determination of providing something current, and real to the players as compared to previous iterations within the “Tales of” series. Each design and challenge may be difficult to grasp through one off explanations, but there are many more features outside of what we have shown you today, such as graphic improvements, drama and character visualizations, system and game designs, and we hope that all players will be able to sense the efforts put towards the rebirth and evolution within the “Tales of” series.
There are probably many opinions for each individual element. However, the Arise team has been developing this game with the goal of achieving the fine balance between providing a new, evolutionary experience and at the same time inheriting the traditional “Tales of like” sense of comfort. We hope that everyone looks forward to seeing how these two pieces have fit together in the final product.
Now, in the information revealed in April, there are many other points that can be noticed, and I can keep going on to explain each part, but the purpose of today’s post is to communicate the overarching design philosophy behind this project, and so I will stop here for now.
Leading up to the launch in September, we will continue to deliver more and more information, and it would be greatly appreciated to hear reactions and receive support from everybody.

– “Tales of ARISE” Producer Tomizawa
The new video for Tales of ARISE presents the region of Elde Menancia, a luxurious and diverse region of Dahna, and its capital of Viscint. Here players will meet Kisara and Dohalim, the last two characters to join Alphen, Shionne, Rinwell and Law in their quest to free Dahna from Renan oppression.
Dohalim is a noble from Rena with very different feelings toward Dahnans compared to other Renans. He is a very well-mannered gentleman with a particular sensibility towards forms of art like music, poetry or antiquities. He fights using his rod with a mix of techniques and astral artes making him able to adapt to his opponents.
Kisara is a Dahnan soldier who accompanies Dohalim. One of the most powerful soldiers in the Dahnan army, she is also highly regarded by Renan soldiers, even while using their equipment. She uses her hammer and shield to deal strong damages in close combat, but can also use her shield to protect her friends while unleashing high-powered and wide-ranging defensive techniques.
In this trailer players can also discover some of the most spectacular attacks of Tales of Arise, such as Artes, one of Tales of staples, that will allow players to initiate and create devastating combos, and the Boost Strikes, very powerful attacks performed by two characters with the intent of giving a final blow to the enemies.

The “Tales of” game experience is still alive and well in ARISE, with both seriousness and comicality. On their epic journey to free the oppressed planet Dahna of Rena’s domination, Alphen, Shionne and their comrades will visit beautiful environments, meet formidable foes and experience various activities, like cooking, farming and fishing, all the while creating a unique bonds amongst themselves.
Character Building & Growth
“Tales of” is a game to enjoy the characters. In addition to the main scenarios, you can get to enjoy different experiences with characters when you roam around the map.
In Tales of Arise, enjoy the development of characters, as you uncover the characters’ emotions and fates portrayed in different form of encounters – Event Movie, Animation, Skit and Short Chats
One of the features of the “Tales of” series, is the “Skit” feature that allows the party to enjoy interesting conversations while exploring the field.
The Evolved “Skit” Feature
Learn new aspects about individual characters, get a glimpse of the interesting side of each character from various perspective not seen in the main storyline alone and establish deeper bonds.
This evolved feature in Tales of ARISE, includes showcasing characters’ expression in 3D. Costumes and attachments equipped, as well as location and in-game time of the day, will also be reflected in the “Skit” cutscenes to enhance your feeling of real-time travelling with the whole party.
Sub-quests — Meet people and learn more about the characters and their charms
During your adventures, Alphen and his friends will encounter people with various challenges. By solving their problems, you can obtain weapons, items and even cooking recipes.
On completing quests, you will be able to see characters’ personalities and emotional changes from a different angle than the main story. Some of the quests will require you to confront powerful enemies as well.
Camping, Cooking, Farming activities — Deepen your bonds through communication
On the field, there is “camp”, which not only allows you to recover (HP & CP) but also lets you engage deeper communication with party members. At the camping spot, you can look back at the skits that have occurred along the way. By choosing a character to share a conversation with before going to sleep, you can also see a new side of yourself too.
The series’ familiar “Cooking” system
Enjoy the familiar quirky dishes that comes with each character’s own specialties! By entrusting them with their specialties, you may trigger special cutscenes!
In addition, there are also chef-style outfits to get you in the cooking mood! Wearing these costumes and playing skits related to cooking doubles the fun!
Dish & Recipes
You can cook by learning recipes and using ingredients to recreate them. By eating food, you can gain various buffs that will be useful for your battles!
Develop a farm where you can harvest food
If you can manage the ingredients properly, you will be able to create a wider variety of dishes along the way. By developing farm and gathering a wealth of ingredients, you can cook a variety of dishes and use the additional buffs to your advantage in battles against powerful enemies.
Mini-games — Discover new aspects of the members
Hootle’s friend!? Find the owl!
Look for Hootle’s friends hiding around every corner! Owls of different colours, shapes and sizes are hidden throughout the town and field.
By finding the owls, you can return them to the Owl Village and obtain attachments.
Do “fishing” and collect achievements!
Enjoy fishing and expand your collection! You can go fishing at the waterfront during your adventures.
Kisara in particular, is an avid fisherman. Other than getting unique fishing results at each fishing spot, you can also record your catch and collect achievements!
Collect “artifacts” with Dohalim
Besides fishing, there is also artifacts collection you can do with Dohalim. Collecting artifacts is one of his hobbies, for he has a deep knowledge in arts. By collecting artifacts that drops in various locations, Dohalim can share his knowledge and insights.
Above being just a collection, artifacts can also be worn to obtain a variety of buffs to help you in battle.

SINGAPORE – 10 June, 2019 – BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment Asia today announced Tales of Arise, the latest chapter in the popular Tales Of Japanese role-playing-game franchise.
With Yusuke Tomizawa (head of the God Eater franchise) at the helm of the Tales Of development team, the franchise and its latest chapter promise to deliver new storylines, gameplay dynamics, and worlds for players to explore. Tales of Arise is slated for launch in 2020 for the PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system, Xbox One, and PC.
Tales of Arise takes place in a solar system containing the two neighbouring planets of Dahna and Rena. The inhabitants of Dahna have always paid reverence to their planetary neighbours on Rena – a planet they can clearly see in their sky – as a land of the righteous and divine. For the people of Dahna, legends and lore about Rena and its inhabitants have been handed down for countless generations, and through time, have become facts in their minds that have masked a cruel reality for the people of Dahna.
For 300 years, the people of Rena have ruled over Dahna, pillaging the planet of its resources and stripping its people of their dignity and freedom. Tales of Arise begins with two people, born on different worlds, each longing to change their fate and create a new future for themselves and perhaps their people. Featuring an original cast of characters, a dramatic storyline, dynamic combat, breath-taking environments with some classic Tales Of elements included; Tales of Arise marks a new beginning for the famed JRPG franchise.

Players will be immersed in the story of Rena, the star that has been ruling the Dahna planet with an iron fist for the past 300 years. Renans have been depleting Dahna of its natural resources, enslaving most of the planet’s population in order to do so. This tale follows the fight to free Dahnans of their fate and will be experienced through the eyes of Alphen, an iron-masked Dahnan fighting to free his people, and Shionne, a girl from Rena, who’s on the run from her countrymen. They will be joined through their journey by various characters, such as Rinwell and Law, that will help them in their fight for freedom.
Tales of ARISE carries the DNA of the franchise while pushing the envelope further using the BANDAI NAMCO Studios developed “Atmospheric Shader” adding a new touch to the graphics making them look like hand-drawn. This will enhance the players’ immersion, along with a vivid new world where they will explore numerous biomes. Combat has also evolved adding more direct effects and attacks, to provide a better sense of spectacle and more direct player feedback based upon their actions.
